This Privacy Policy describes how Wifi TV Remote
(package name com.wifitvremote.app), operated via
wifitvremote.gold9.co.in,
collects, uses, and shares information when you use our Android app and related website services
(together, the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who we are
Wifi TV Remote is a Wi‑Fi TV remote control app for Google TV / Android TV, Mi / Xiaomi sticks,
and Fire TV devices on your local network, with optional Real Ratings features.
TV pairing and remote control happen on your local Wi‑Fi; we do not stream your TV video.
“Already watched” lists stay on your phone.
Optional Real Ratings votes and “not available / duplicate” reports may be sent to our servers.
Optional camera use for poster text recognition runs on-device; only the resulting movie vote may sync.
A Google AdMob banner on the TV scan screen may use the advertising ID as described by Google.
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Information we collect and why
3.1 Local network & TV control (on your device / LAN)
To discover and control TVs, the app uses local network access (and on older Android versions,
location permission may be required only so Android can allow Wi‑Fi scanning). We use this to:
Find TVs on the same Wi‑Fi network.
Pair with a code shown on the TV.
Send remote commands (navigation, volume, media, sleep/wake where supported, and typed text).
We do not use location permission to map, track, or upload your GPS location.
Pairing certificates / tokens and remembered TVs are stored on your phone.
3.2 App preferences stored on your phone
Remote theme (light / dark).
Hide watched movies preference.
“Already watched” movie marks (local only; not uploaded for that purpose).
Paired device records needed to reconnect.
3.3 Real Ratings & related server data
If you use Real Ratings features, we may receive and store:
Movie title and optional studio / platform labels you submit.
Recommend / not-recommend vote.
Optional child-friendly signal you choose.
Approximate country (from device locale / country code) for country charts.
Vote source (for example camera vs manual).
Timestamps and anonymous technical identifiers needed to operate the API (such as request metadata).
“Not available” or “Duplicate” reports you choose to send for admin review.
We use this data to show trending / community charts, improve listings, and moderate bad reports.
Votes are not tied to a personal login because the app has no accounts.
3.4 Camera & on-device text recognition (optional)
If you use the camera to capture a poster or title:
Images are processed on your device for optical character recognition (OCR).
We do not intend to upload raw camera photos to our servers.
Only the resulting title / vote payload you confirm may be sent for Real Ratings sync.
3.5 Advertising
The free app shows one banner ad on the TV scan screen using Google AdMob. The remote itself has no ads.
Google may collect or use identifiers such as the Android Advertising ID, IP address, and device/ad
interaction data according to its policies. Your TV, pairing codes, and remote commands are never shared
with the ad SDK. You can reset or limit ad personalisation in your Android settings. Learn more:
Google Privacy Policy
and
Ad settings.
3.6 Website & server logs
When you visit our website or the app talks to our API, standard server logs may include IP address,
user agent, timestamps, and requested URLs. We use these for security, reliability, and abuse prevention.
3.7 Permissions you may see on Android
Nearby devices / Wi‑Fi / local network — discover and control TVs.
Location (approx., older Android) — only to enable local Wi‑Fi discovery; not for GPS tracking.
Camera — optional poster / title capture for Real Ratings.
Microphone — optional, only when you tap Voice to text on the TV keyboard.
Internet — ads, trending lists, Real Ratings sync, and opening links.
4. How we use information
Provide TV remote and pairing features.
Operate Real Ratings charts and moderation.
Show ads and measure basic ad performance (via Google).
Secure the Service, prevent abuse, and fix bugs.
Respond to support emails you send us.
Comply with law when required.
5. Legal bases (EEA/UK users)
Where GDPR/UK GDPR applies, we rely on:
Contract / service delivery — to provide remote control and features you request.
Consent — where required for optional permissions (camera, microphone, personalised ads) or similar choices.
6. Sharing of information
We may share information with:
Service providers that host our website/API or help us operate infrastructure.
Google for advertising (AdMob), Play services, and on-device text recognition (ML Kit).
Authorities if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security.
We do not sell personal information and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as a “sale” under common US state definitions, except as Google may process data under its own terms when ads are shown.
7. Data retention
On-device pairing and watched lists remain until you clear app data or uninstall.
Real Ratings votes and reports are kept as long as needed for charts, moderation, and Service operation, then deleted or aggregated.
Server logs are kept for a limited operational period unless needed longer for security or legal reasons.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical measures (such as HTTPS for website/API traffic and on-device storage for pairing material).
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
9. Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country).
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child provided
information to us, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Your choices & rights
Revoke Android permissions in system settings.
Reset or delete your advertising ID / opt out of ad personalisation in Android settings.
Clear app storage or uninstall to remove local pairing and watched data.
Email us to ask questions about Real Ratings data associated with your submissions where feasible.
Depending on your location (for example EEA, UK, California), you may have rights to access, correct,
delete, or restrict certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a regulator. Contact
manoj.jp.kumar@gmail.com.
Because we do not operate user accounts, some requests may be limited by what we can reasonably identify.
11. International transfers
Our servers or providers may process data in countries other than yours. Where required, we use
appropriate safeguards for such transfers.
12. Third-party links & TV platforms
Opening movies or apps on your TV may launch third-party services (Netflix, YouTube, etc.) governed by
their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for those services.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change.
Continued use of the Service after an update means you accept the revised policy.
